Escambia County is committed to making our website accessible and we are constantly striving to increase the usability of our website for all our residents. We strive to meet 508 and W3C’s accessibility guidelines to our fullest ability.
While designing this website, readability and usability, including features for those with disabilities so they may be able to see, understand, navigate, interact and contribute to this site effectively, was paramount. The pages are designed with style sheets that allow a consistent, uniform appearance of headings and body text. The background and foreground colors on pages provide sufficient contrast to be viewable by someone having color deficits. This design feature also enables some browsers to override the style sheets with their own, thus providing content that is easier viewed by those who have visual impairments. Tools such as keyboard shortcuts, verbal tags, graphic identifications and style labeling were also used to better assist those who may not be able to use a mouse or who use screen readers and refreshable braille displays.
Greater accessibility will continue to be a focus as this website evolves and improves as Escambia County works towards a perceivable, operable, understandable and robust website. We welcome your questions and suggestions on how to improve accessibility of our website. Please send your comments to the Webmaster.
